Tired of driving around for 30 minutes desperately hoping for a parking spot to miraculously appear? Sick of spending 140$ on a decal that promises you nothing? Gainesville Parking wants to help you do something that the University has clearly failed on - parking your car by building more parking lots around the outskirts of campus.
Hi Taylor,
ReplyDeleteI really like your idea. It is pretty messed up how UF sells more decals than there are parking spaces. And the fact that you are essentially paying anywhere from $80 to $140 for a just chance that you will be able to park. Will your parking lots have a designated time for the decals to be effective like UF's? Like how some parking lots, the decal is required between 7:30 to 4:30 on weekdays but its free after that.
This is an incredible and practical solution for obvious reasons as I experienced a similar problem when attending the University of Central Florida. The multi story parking lot solution is a great one that i've seen used regularly though it can be unsightly and kind of industrial looking. Ultimately prime use of the real estate would be the most utilitarian solution for the parking woes on campus even if the urban design purists would rather have a more aesthetic solution implemented while providing a similar level of usefulness. Great job regardless and I wish you luck with your assignments this semester. If you'd like to read my blog, you can find it here: http://ruben-s-castro.blogspot.com/2016/02/elevator-pitch-no-1.html
ReplyDeleteHi Taylor,
ReplyDeleteI can't even begin to tell you how happy I am to hear someone solving an issue to a problem so close to home. I feel the pain just thinking about driving around to find a spot. I live in a Trimark property (where they overprice and jack it up every year- $185 a month next year) and I go to the gym regularly and then get $30 fines for not having a $150 decal that's only valid in the commuter lots. It's insane the parking issues we have here. With this venture be sure to price just right. Monthly's don't work as well as one time fees; the one time fee is more affordable and provides a much happier customer who would spread the word about your new business! Great idea!
